Cub Master Corner (Joel Hopper)
OLYMPIC OATH
I imagine most of us have watched the Olympic Games
on the television. It's really great watching the world's
greatest athletes competing, isn't it?
Did you know that these athletes take an oath before they begin competition?
Let me read the oath:
"We swear that we will take part in the Olympic Games
in loyal competition, respecting the regulations that
govern them and desirous in participating in them in the
true spirit of sportsmanship for the honor of our country
and for the glory of sport. "
Did you notice that the oath says nothing about winning?
Of course the athletes want to win. After all, they
have been training for four years or more to get ready
for the games.
But the Olympic ideal is fair competition, not winning
at all costs. Let's remember that ideal when we have any
competitions.
Play to win. But remember that every athlete must learn
to lose gracefully, without alibiing or complaining.
That's the Olympic ideal in a nutshell. It's also the ideal
in Scouting.

pre-registration.
If you have any requests for different campouts, other outings or if you can join the
outing committee, we sure could use the extra help, please let me know.

From Our Pack Chairman (Rob Miller)
I would like to congratulate all of our Scouts and their parents
on achieving their rank. Great Job! We've had three
great events over the last two months; the Pinewood Derby,
Arrow of Light, and our Blue and Gold banquet. We had a
fantastic Pinewood Derby and took advantage of our new aluminum track putting on a
first class racing event. The Arrow of Light ceremony was very well done
we all wish the best to our Scouts that have obtained their AOL. Our Blue and Gold
Banquet was an outstanding success. Great food and great company! Pack
978 continues to put on first class events. We thank all of those who
have help us and encourage others to join and help carry on these activities.
The committee and volunteers are critical to the success of the pack and
to ensure we have fun meetings and events for the boys and their families.
The pack needs volunteers at every level; committee members to coordinators.
It’s a great opportunity to meet great people and make new friends.
Thanks,
Rob

Good Turn (Joel Hopper and Wayne Hancy)
January 28th our Pack helped Pack 27 put on their first Pinewood Derby Race. Pack 27
just started Aug. 2005 and had 25 scouts ready to race, and for some their first Pinewood
Race. They didn't have a track nor money to buy/rent one so Joel talked to the
Packs leader at Round Table and offered our assistance.
Wayne and Joel scheduled the races, setup the track and let their Pack leaders run the
race. It was great to see the boys faces when they saw our new aluminum track. Actually
it was cool seeing the dads faces too when they saw the track. Our Pack does not
charge for this service as we are performing a "good turn", but as a thank you Pack 27
gave our Pack a gift certificate to the Scout Shop.
Pack 978 has now been approached to help a Girl scout troop in March and another
Pack in April. Again our Pack has stepped up to the request and will help.

Scout Fair Tickets (Jeff Johnson)
Scout Fair is April 22nd. Our pack will be sponsoring the rubber band shooting alley
again. Tickets are ready to be picked up so the boys can start selling. They have some
great coupons this year so it shouldn't be too hard to sell. One ticket gets the whole
family into Scout Fair. Payment is due at point of Sale. Checks made payable to Pack
978.
Prizes will be provided by S.H.A.C. Each ticket sale the Scout earns stamps towards
prizes and the super salesman patch. Sell what you can early to earn more stamps. You
can keep selling after triple and double stamp deadlines. Just turn in what you have
sold on those deadlines and keep selling.
Triple Stamp deadline (sold tickets only) to Jeff Johnson-3/16
Double Stamp deadline (sold tickets only) to Jeff Johnson-4/6
Final turn in (sold and unsold tickets) to Jeff Johnson-4/18.
