Cub Master Corner (Joel Hopper)
Scouts, I'm sure you've all seen a diamond. It's very
hard, very bright and very beautiful. Most of you have
probably seen coal, too. It's dull black and it
crumbles easily.
Now a little chemistry lesson.
Who can tell me how coal and diamonds are alike?
That's right - both are made from the element carbon.
But a diamond has great value because it is rare. I compare
the diamond to a man of sharp mind, hard body
and shining bright spirit. The coal might be compared to
a man who is not mentally sharp, physically tough or
spiritually bright. Someone once said that a diamond is
just a piece of coal that stuck to it. Over many millions
of years, its brilliance was caused by the heat and pressure
inside our earth.
My hope is that like that diamond you will stick to it by
following our Scouting ideals. If you do, you will become
an example of what a man should be

From Our Pack Chairman (Rob Miller)
It's already the end of March, where has the time
gone? We still have a bunch of fun filled events to go before
Crossover; the pack picnic and rain gutter regatta,
Scouting for Food, and Scout Fair to mention a few. The
Pack 978 Picnic will be held this Sunday, April 2nd, at
Spring Creek State Park in Tomball. This year we will
have the Rain Gutter Regatta which should be lots of
fun. We will be doing “Scouting for Food” again this year. The local food pantries are
low and in need of donations. The Pack will be printing up the flyers and providing
bags for this effort, we will be providing the areas each Den will be assigned this week
to the Den Leaders.
Scout Fair is coming up on April 25th. Pack 978 will have a booth again this year and
will need volunteers to help. Jeff Johnson is leading that task. Scout Fair is a lot of fun
for the boys and a great opportunity for them to earn belt loops and other achievements.
Make sure you go out side in the back where the scouts cook up camping food to sample
and provide recipes.
Pack 978 has been “showing off” our new track! With the help of Wayne Hancy, and
Joel Hopper our Pack provided the track and experience to assist Pack 27 with their
first Pinewood Derby. Johnny and Wayne also set up and managed the “Powder Puff”
Derby for the Local Girl Scout Troupes, ~130 girls racing 4 races each. Joel , Johnny,
and Wayne did a great job assisting other scouts with their races and doing a "Good
Turn"!
As we begin to wind down the year we will be approaching many of you to ask for volunteers
for next year. Many of the committee positions will be empty next year and we
need to fill them soon. Come on out and volunteer, you don’t have to be an experienced
scout leader to help. You will be surprised with how much fun it really is working
with the Pack.
Yours in Scouting,
Rob

Scout Fair (Jeff Johnson)
I have scheduled times that each den will work the booth at Scout Fair. Each scout that
works the booth qualifies for the Scout Fair patch. Each den will need at least two parents
and two scouts to work the booth for one hour. The time slots are listed below. If
a time isn't convenient, please let me know and I will try my best to rearrange the
dens. The booth will be a rubber band shoot game.
While you are not working the booth enjoy the fair. There is plenty to do. Scouts can
earn many different belt loops. All kids can have fun making crafts, playing games and
believe it or not learn something. Also don’t forget to go outside and enjoy the fine
cooking the boy scouts do. Plan to spend the whole day as there is usually more than 1
can do in one day at the fair.
Den 1 Tigers should plan to work with one of the other groups. Den 1, please let me..(ends)
- 11:00am to 12:00pm Den 5
- 12:00pm to 1:00pm Den 3
- 1:00pm to 2:00pm Den 6
- 2:00pm to 3:00pm Den 4
- 3:00pm to 4:00pm Den 2
- 4:00pm to 5:00pm Den 9
